Last Thursday brought me back to Birmingham for the second time that week, this time to the bustling Snowhill One in the heart of the city’s business quarter. It was a corporate event hosted by Trower and Hamlin, celebrating the Birmingham Associates Networking Group (BANG!) with a lively drinks reception. The agenda? To welcome clients, contacts, and intermediaries into their stunning new office space at One Snowhill

With around 70 guests mingling in the sleek, modern venue, I set up my close-up magic table, ready to break the ice in fine style. That’s the beauty of close-up magic—it’s the ultimate icebreaker. And at corporate events like this, it’s often just what’s needed to kick things off.

Corporate dos are notorious for a touch of stiffness, with conversations sometimes confined to formalities. But with a little magic, we shake things up! It’s all about creating a seamless transition from business mode to celebration mode. That’s where I come in. Not too over-the-top, not out of place, but perfectly tuned to the room. Over the years, I’ve mastered the art of reading an audience to match the energy they need. A sprinkle of charm? A dash of excitement? Or maybe a bit of flair? Whatever the vibe, I’ve got the right seasoning for the moment.

Two Hours of Magic, Tailored to the Crowd

The evening was a blast. For two solid hours, I entertained groups of 5–10 guests at a time with close-up magic. Guests gathered around the table on their own terms, enjoying short, 10–15 minute sessions that felt intimate and engaging. Performing at the table makes the experience more immersive and gives guests the freedom to join in when it suits them, which I always encourage wherever possible.

The result? Laughter, gasps, and conversation bubbled across the room as the magic truly ‘broke the ice.’ By the night’s end, the mood was relaxed, energised, and anything but ordinary.
