Conservatory Cocktail Bar Magic
Close-up magic at the grand opening of The Conservatory — Worcester's stylish new cocktail bar. Stilt walkers, a live singer, a VIP crowd, and jaws on the floor. Here's how the night unfolded.
Recently I had the absolute pleasure of performing at the grand opening of The Conservatory, Worcester's newest and most stylish cocktail bar.
Jack, the mastermind behind the venue, had spent months transforming the space into a haven for great drinks, good vibes and unforgettable events. And when it came to the launch, he wasn't messing about — this was no ordinary bar opening.
A Grand Opening Like No Other
From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this was going to be a night to remember. Stilt walkers greeted everyone at the door, towering above the crowd and setting the tone for an evening of spectacle and fun. Inside, a live singer filled the room with incredible music, while a "posh nosh" table offered a spread that would make any foodie swoon. And let's not forget the army of photographers and videographers capturing every moment — Jack had thought of everything.
But the real magic? That's where I came in. As Worcester's premier magician, I was there to add a touch of wonder to the evening — mingling with guests and leaving them speechless with close-up magic.

The VIP Experience
From 8 till 10pm, the event was invite-only — you needed a wrist tag to get past the security guards. This exclusive window was where the magic truly happened, literally. I spent two hours weaving through the crowd, performing close-up magic that had jaws dropping and laughter echoing through the room.
Picture it: a group of guests gathered around, cocktails in hand, as I made their signed card appear in the most impossible places, or turned borrowed objects into something extraordinary. The reactions? Priceless. There's nothing quite like watching someone's face light up with pure amazement.

The Challenges of Performing at Events Like This
Every event has its quirks, and this one was no exception. As a close-up magician I thrive on creating intimate, mind-blowing moments — but there are always a couple of hurdles to navigate:
- Loud music The live singer was phenomenal, but the volume can make it harder to engage guests. Luckily I've mastered adapting my performance to any environment, so everyone gets the magic — even in a lively room.
- Alcohol Let's be honest — it's both a blessing and a curse. It loosens people up, but it can make things unpredictable. Happily, the cocktails at The Conservatory were crafted with care (shoutout to the bartenders!), so guests were in great spirits without getting rowdy.
Despite the challenges, the night was an absolute blast. The energy in the room was electric and the guests were a joy to perform for. If you're curious about the ups and downs of the job, I've written more in Confessions of a Corporate Magician.

Why Close-Up Magic is Perfect for Any Event
These reaction shots from the event photographer (booked through me, by the way) capture the joy, the laughter and the sheer amazement close-up magic brings to any occasion — a corporate event, a wedding, a private party. It breaks the ice, brings people together and creates memories that stick.
