A Night of Magic at Andrea's 50th Birthday in Dorridge
A milestone 50th at Dorridge Village Hall, a repeat booking from a wedding the year before, and one very special crème de la crème party set.
When Andrea's sister reached out to me with a unique request, I felt a warm sense of déjà vu. I had performed at her wedding the previous year. Andrea, however, didn't quite catch the magic back then (something about a little too much celebratory champagne!).
To make up for it, her sister invited me to entertain at Andrea's 50th birthday celebration at the lovely Dorridge Village Hall. After 28+ years performing at parties, weddings and corporate events, being invited back by the same family is still the best compliment there is - and of course, I couldn't say no to such a special occasion!
Party Magic at Dorridge Village Hall
No two gigs are ever the same.
Andrea's birthday bash was no exception. It was an enthusiastic mix of partygoers, blending lively adults with, dare I say, a few too many excitable kids. Now don't get me wrong, kids are great - but they always add a certain kind of chaos to the mix. Of course, I say that with a grin (mostly).
To balance the bustling energy of the party, I strategically set up my close-up magic table next to the bar, apart from the main room. This quieter spot worked perfectly, giving guests a peaceful corner to hear me perform without competing with the chatter and music. I also added LED lights to my setup, creating a welcoming focal point where people could stop by for a moment of intrigue and amazement.
From there I spent the evening rotating between small groups of guests, performing 10-15 minute sets of close-up magic. These intimate moments are where the magic truly shines - the kind that pull people together, spark excited conversations, and fill the room with laughter and disbelief.

The atmosphere was buzzing. From wide-eyed amazement to infectious laughter, the responses made every sleight-of-hand trick even better. Andrea's friends and family were an incredible audience, leaning into the fun and getting involved with delightful enthusiasm.

Making Andrea's 50th Birthday Special
Since it was Andrea's milestone celebration, I wanted to add an extra special touch to the evening just for her. After warming up the crowd with a few rounds of magic for smaller groups, I asked Andrea to gather up some of her favourite guests. Andrea was beaming, and the energy in the room was electric. Moments like this make being a party magician so rewarding, especially when you can create something truly memorable for someone's big celebration. And the venue played its part too - noise and busy party atmospheres are usually the trickiest foes, but with that quieter area by the bar and the LED lights leading people to my table, Dorridge Village Hall turned out to be the perfect stage for connection, wonder, and a whole lot of laughs.
Andrea's celebration truly highlighted how impactful a personal touch can be, and it was clear her sister put real thought into making the day unforgettable.
