Are wedding magicians tacky?
If there’s one question that gets asked about magic at weddings, it’s this one…
Are wedding magicians tacky?
It’s an important question and I understand why people worry about it. After all, this is your big day you’re talking about. A day you’ve spent months – maybe even years planning. For sure, you don’t want your plans and dreams tarnished by some cheesy, cringe-worthy entertainment that makes everyone feel uncomfortable!
And I agree… there’s nothing worse than a cracker-joke telling amateur performing tricks that are so obvious you’re desperate not to laugh in embarrassment. That’s not entertainment, that’s awkward!
So let me put your mind at rest – right here, right now – because as a wedding magician I know just how much impact the right one can make to your day.
Book the right magician and it won’t be a tacky experience. Instead, it will be an entertainment choice that makes your wedding the one to remember.
Let me tell you why…
Escape those awkward silences!
After attending a lot of weddings (including my own!) I know first-hand the rush and variety of emotions. It’s no surprise with so much at stake and because everyone wants the day to run perfectly.
But anytime you throw a group of people together, there’s bound to be a little ‘awkwardness’. This is especially true at weddings when not everyone knows each other. As a result, you get those little cliques and gatherings where people collect in their comfort groups. This isn’t the one big happy party you imagined!
This is where close-up magic can transform the atmosphere, break the ice, and bring strangers together.
Let your wedding magician (that’s me) mingle with your guest and put on a close up show that brings people together. There’s something magnetic and transformative in the power of a shared experience. Especially one where people are open-mouthed and awe-struck because they can’t figure out how the trick was done.
Magic!
Magic has this beautiful ability to get strangers talking and laughing together – and it’s an atmosphere so contagious, it spreads.
Other guests want to get involved and the vibe rises as more and more people discover the tricks that got other people laughing.
All this magic without any tackiness in sight!
But that’s not all…
An amazing addition! The guests were totally captivated & entertained by Chris.

Not when they help you capture incredible photos!
After months – maybe years of planning, all you’re left with are memories. It’s why the photos and videos you capture on the big day are so valuable. Sure, you want to capture those staged shots, group pictures, and portraits of all the important people.
But don’t underestimate the joy you’ll get from looking back over all those spontaneous snaps that people take on their phones.
After the bride, I’m often the most photographed person at a wedding (lol!). Not because of my good looks and charm, but because of the reactions my tricks inspire.
Guests gather around to see what’s happening, out come the phones and cameras giving you moments like these. It’s magic.
Conversations that last long after the wedding is over!
With the amount of time, energy, and money that goes into planning your big day, you want your guests to be saying nice things about it – for years afterward.
It’s not unusual for customers to come back and tell me that the magic show was one of the most memorable parts of their big day.
Not that magic outshines the ceremony, the dress, or the reception – it’s more because of the togetherness they felt by being part of the close-up experience.
So if you want your special day to stick in people’s minds, know that the right close-up show will help you do that.
[It’s one of the reasons I love what I do :-)]
Our guests loved it and said it was their favourite part of the evening!

How to avoid a tacky wedding magician
Wedding magic works best when it’s used as a warm-up and an icebreaker to bring people together and fill the traditional downtimes – such as during the photoshoot or as people arrive for reception drinks.
Avoid a big extravagant show and instead opt for close-up magic, which adds to your day without stealing all the attention.
Close-up magic is fun, entertaining, and great for getting people talking. And if you’re unsure what close-up magic is, think watch stealing, things disappearing, and other types of pickpocketing. [Don’t worry, we return everything safely to the rightful owner!]
It’s true; a wedding magician can be tacky when it’s predictable, easy to figure out, and when the magician struggles to mingle and feel at ease with the crowd.
But when your magician is a showman who can handle a crowd, can talk with anyone, and make even Great Aunt Maud smile, you don’t have to worry about tackiness spoiling your big day.
So if you’re looking for the perfect close-up magician for your wedding, I’d love to hear from you. I promise, there won’t be a tacky, or cringe-worthy trick in sight!
