Ideas to keep your wedding alive!
Weddings are wonderful occasions for sure but without doubt, long days. On average, a wedding from start to finish is 10 hours long and with that comes a lot of downtime for your guests.
But it needn’t be like this! With a little thought and planning, your wedding can be the talk of the town. Keeping guests occupied with things to do/watch/interact with is the way to go.
As a regular wedding guest, I know a good wedding when I see one. The ones that stick in my mind are those where entertainment/activities have been laid on for the guests. A little downtime during the day is great but by implementing some of these suggestions, your guests will love you forever!
Here are some of my favourite wedding entertainment ideas;
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 1:
Silver Service with a difference!
A Comedy Waiter
A perfect icebreaker great for the early part of the day! Let this stooge loose amongst your guests creating laughs, mischief and a little havoc. Offering guests a canape trio stick of jelly babies, carrots and cheesy wotsits with mild insults of your fashion faux pas’s – a comedy waiter is an excellent addition to get your party started!
I first witnessed a comedy waiter whilst gigging and have since used the same guy for my own personal parties with great success. Check out this guy who is FANTASTIC!
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 2:
I’ve always been fascinated by having someone draw me – even if they do accentuate my nose! Having a caricaturist means your guests will take home a memento of your day which would take pride of place on the fridge.
Guests like anything that revolves around them, so having someone create a comical masterpiece will be a talking point during the day as drawings are compared and laughed at! “Look at the size of his chin”!

Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 3:
Jump and slide!
Trust me on this one. Weddings are a long day particularly for children and there is no better way to keep a child content than to let bounce or slide around on one of these! Come the evening, it’ll be a hit with the adults too!
Worried about bouncy castle’s looking a bit naff? Not a bit of it! If you look in the right places, you can find some boujee (google it) “buildings” fit for a princess!
Inflatables are a fantastic cost-effective way of keeping guests (both young and old) entertained.
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 4:
Test your guests!
How well do your guests know the Bride & Groom? Put it to the test. Anyone who fails is escorted briskly from the premises. Ok, make your own rules but putting together a short quiz about Bride & Groom trivia is good fun and … FREE!
Have your guests put into teams (girls v boys, work colleagues v family, etc) and get an Usher/Best man to host the quiz. Answers are given, points awarded, prizes (or not!) presented!
Another hot version is to play Mr & Mrs with the newly-weds!
They’re asked questions such as “Who has the worst temper?” “Who’s the better cook?” “Who is most likely to say sorry” with the Bride & Groom indicating their answer back-to-back with the whole wedding group to view.
Lots of laughs guaranteed! Great wedding reception entertainment!
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 5:
A Taxi booth!
Standard photos booth are fun but soooooo last year! Let’s step up the booth-world by shoving your guests into the back of a taxi and capturing the fun that develops!
Crazy wigs, funny costumes, silly faces will create a buzz and leave lasting memories of your wedding.
I’m a firm believer that you need to give your guests an excuse to get out of their seats and interact with something during the day. It doesn’t have to be for long but I truly beleive there’s a much better dynamic to a wedding when guests are mingling.
The taxi-booth makes a great focal point and look much nicer than your traditional booths too. Not an Uber-app in sight!

Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 6:
Shoot It Yourself videos!
Having your guests take on the role of Steven Spielberg for the day will give them a sense of purpose during the wedding and naturally provide lots of fun moments. Professional video cameras are provided so guests can film during the day.
You send the footage over to be professionally edited and you end up with a 30-45-minute masterpiece to keep forever.
Guests can take it in turns throughout the day – being as creative as their minds allow! Check out wedding entertainment ideas Shoot It Yourself
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 7:
A Wedding Magician! (not to scale!)
As the author of this blog, I have a certain poetic licence! I may be outrageously biased here (sue me) but a wedding magician really is a fantastic wedding entertainment idea. In fact, I have a good mind to put this top of the list!
A wedding magician (a good one) will generate reactions like no other – the photo opportunities as your guests stare open-mouthed are too good to miss (make sure your photographer is around!)
Let your magician mix and mingle during the drinks/evening reception (or wedding breakfast) creating moments of WTF and OMG!
If only there were a video to show you the kind of reactions you’d get…
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 8:
A live artist!
I was introduced to this delightful form of entertainment only recently having attended a wedding together.
The results are stunning!
Really classy drawings of your guests with a focus on their wedding attire.
Taking around 10-15 minutes per drawing, it’s obviously not as quick as a caricature but to be honest, these are two different products!
It was fascinating to watch Lucy at work with crowds gathering to see the finished outcome – it really is a unique way to capture you and your guests during the wedding.
I had my drawing by Lucy (see her website here) framed and sent to my mom – she loves it!
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 9:
Strike a pose…
We’re a nation obsessed with taking photos of ourselves and loved ones. It’s hit crisis levels!
So give ’em what they want with this decorative frame to pop their head in!
This is a cheaper alternative to the taxi-booth option which you can design to suit your wedding themes and colours.
Once again, any attraction that has your guests out of their seat provides interest and a better atmosphere.
Wedding Reception Entertainment idea 10:
Set the tone!
Setting the right tone is an essential part of generating a great atmosphere. Background music will significantly help provide the right vibe without over-powering the important stuff.
Having your guest being able to hold a conversation is crucial and an accoustic set is a great fit.
Here’s the very duo I used for my wedding and then again for my parent’s wedding anniversary. Highly recommended!
